PER-, pref. Also par-. A pref. used with intensive force before nouns, verbs and occas. adjs., of somewhat infrequent occurrence. See e.g. Pardoos, Pergaddus, Perjink, Perlaigit, Perlaug. Pernicketie, Perskeet.

[Prob. an extended usage of Lat. per- (and phs. also pre-, Lat. prae-), with sim. force, prefixed to non-Romance words. Cf. also Cur-, Gil-, prefs.]
