GIL-, pref. Also gal-, gill-, gul-; gar-, gir-, gor-, gur-. Variant forms of Cur-, pref., q.v., esp. in sense 2., having an intensive force. See e.g. Gargrugous, Garwhoungle, Gilravage, Gill-wheep, Girwheevy, Girskaivie. A quasi-dim. form gillie- (cf. cullie-) may occur in such words as Gilliegascon, Gilly-gawpus, Gilly-gawkie, but is inseparable from Gillie, n.1
