To assythe the sd John Barr as the pairty Lesed.
Lnk. 1718 Minutes J.P.'s Lnk. (S.H.S. 1931) 225:
Act. Ja. 1st, Parl. 1st, cap. 7, the Parliament statutes . . . gif they be convict of sick trespas, that they be punished and find burrows [security] till assyth the king and party complainand.

[O.Sc. assith, asyth, e.g. in Barbour and Bellenden, to satisfy, to compensate, esp. for an offence or injury done. The noun also was in use in O.Sc. (See N.E.D. assythe.) Mid.Eng. assethe; Mod.Eng. asset(s); O.Fr. as(s)et, ases, asez; Mod.Fr. assez; late Lat. ad satis.]
