Restor(e, -stoir, -staur, v. Also: ra- and -stoure, -stoyre. P.p. also restort, -stord. [ME and e.m.E. restore(n (1297), restaur (1513), OF restaurar, -er (late 10th c. and c1138 in Larousse), L. restaurāre.]

1. tr. To give back (a thing, also a non-material thing or person, previously taken away, held, handed over, lost, stolen, etc.); to make return or restitution of. Also absol.Also, once, to restoir bak.(1) 1385 Rot. Sc. II 73/2.
