Pan(n)ell, -al(e, n.¹ Also: -ul. [North. ME. panel (Cursor M.), panel(l)e (15th c.), e.m.E. panell (1497), but previously appar. only north., e.m.E. also pannell (1530) a kind of treeless saddle, OF. panel, med. L. panellus, (see Pannel(l,n.²).] A cloth, skin or pad placed under the saddle of a horse or mule. 1496 Treas. Acc. I. 292.
