[To restore to Katherine Scott, widow, her dwelling place and lands which had been given to her in liferent,] be the said umquhile Williame, hir spouse, at the contracting of meriage betwix thaim, for hir dowry, ande mornyng gift 1593 Edinb. Test. XXV. 282.

Morning-gift is ane kind of dowrie … and signifies the gift of gudes moveable or immoveable quhilk the husband giues to the wife the day or morning after the mariage
