It's only been some penka field atween dem, der shürely made it up noo.Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928):
Der wer a pikkifild atween dem.

[Orig. unknown. The earlier forms suggest a reference to the battle of Pinkie in 1547 but this may be a pure coincidence or due to popular etymology. The word appears orig. to be the same as Pickiefeer, also of obscure etymology. For the alternation -feer, -field, cf. Hellyiefer, Hellyiefyoll.]
