WITHERLOCK, n. comb. Also weather-. The lock or tuft of hair in a horse's mane above his shoulders which a rider grasps in mounting (Rxb. 1825 Jam.; Cai. 1905 E.D.D., Cai. 1974).Sc. 1751 Caled. Mercury (28 Feb.):
A white Tuft in his Mane a little before the Weatherlock.

[Eng. wither, the top of a horse's shoulders, + -lock. O.Sc. has widderlok, c.1460.]
