WHEEMER, v. Also whimmer. To go about complaining and grousing (Rxb. 1825 Jam.), to grumble, mutter (Cld. 1880 Jam.); to whine, whimper, cry feebly like a child (Rxb. 1825 Jam., whimmer). Now only liter.Sc. 1935 W. Soutar Poems in Sc. 33:
The snell wind, wi' a wheemerin' soun', Gaed owre me.

[A freq. formation of echoic orig. cf. Wheem, Eng. whimper and Whinner, Ger. wimmeren, to whimper.]
