I. v. tr. and intr., of a fisherman: to turn his boat to one side, to veer (a boat); of a boat: to drift to one side, to veer (Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl.); “to guide or direct” (Ib.).Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928):

II. n. The turning of the tide, the moment of stillness when the tide is about to change its motion (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928), 1949 Scots Mag. (Nov.) 130).
