TRIFFLE, n.2 Also trifula. Sc. forms of Eng. trefoil, the name of various plants. Comb. water triffle, the water trefoil or buck-bean, Menyanthes trifoliata (Mry. 1839 G. Gordon Flora Mry. 9; Nai. 1892 Trans. Northern Assoc. I. v. 63). Cai. 1829  J. Hay Poems 74:
Marshmallow root, trifula blue.
