TIMOTHY, n. Sc. usages:

1. A drink of liquor, a dram, a bowl of toddy or the like, a drinking glass (wm.Sc. 1869 St Andrews Gazette (27 Nov.)).Gsw. 1856 J. Strang Gsw. Clubs 529:
The petty expense of a solitary timothy in the Sma' Weft Club-room.
Ayr. 1890 J. Service Notandums 87:
Only drink fair, pree and pree about, wi' that timothy o' toddy.

2. Haste, bustle, agitation, anger (Bnff. 1866 Gregor D. Bnff. 231).

3. A downpour of rain (Ork. 1929 Marw., Ork. 1972).

[Appar. ad. the proper name Timothy, poss. the biblical Timothy, though the allusions are not all clear. For 1. cf. I. Timothy v. 23, for 2. II Timothy iv. For 3. Marwick suggests a pun on Tume.]
