TEM, v., n. Also tame (Ork. 1929 Marw.).

I. v. To stretch, esp. of a skin placed on a frame to dry (Ork. 1929 Marw., Ork. 1972).

II. n. Of eyes, sinews, muscles, etc.: a state of distention or strain; esp. in phr. in tem, strained or stretched out (Id.).Ork. 1880 Dennison Sketch-Bk. 120:
His lowan een steud oot i' tame.

[II. is a reduced form of Temba. I. appears to be a conflation of this with Norw. dial. tenja, O.N. þenja, to stretch. Cf. also O.N. þambr, puffed out, distended, Icel. þemba, to blow up.]
