TEENGE, n. Sc. variant of Eng. tinge, a shade of colour, fig. a slight touch, admixture, flavour, etc. Sc. usage: an attack of colic in horses (Sc. 1808 Jam.); also in persons (Ags. 1971 Dundee Courier (27 April); Ags., Per. 1972). For the vowel see P.L.D. § 45. [tindʒ]Sc. 1812 J. Sinclair System Husb. Scot. I. 119:
If given raw, to horses especially, they are one great cause of the tinge or gripes.
Ags. 1894 J. B. Salmond My Man Sandy (1899) 4:
He's haen a teenge or twa, an' he's akinda foondered afore.
