†TCHARNICAN, n. A cake or bannock baked on May-day and given to children to eat with a May-day egg. The cake throughout its preparation and distribution was never allowed to leave the baker's hands except to be toasted (Rs. 1894 Trans. Bch. Field Club III. 151). Gael. [′tʃɑrnəkən]
