STARRACH, adj. Of weather, etc.: cold, bleak, disagreeable (Cai. 1904 E.D.D., Cai. 1971). [′stɑrəx]Cai. 1926 Broughton Mag. (Summer) 12:
Far doun I lig wi' starrach spindrift drouken.

[Prob. a variant of dial. stark, of weather; harsh, inclement. Cf. Stark, I., 4. The svarabhakti vowel in the second syllable seems to show the influence of Gaelic speakers.]
