BERTIE AULD, adj. [Bertie Auld was a player with Celtic Football Club in the 1950s and 60s.] Rhyming slang for cauld.Gsw. 1991:
..On coming out of a football match on a winter's day a man near him remarked, 'My it's fair Burlington the day.' 'Burlington?' my friend enquired. 'Aye, Burlington Bertie. Bertie Auld, [then manager of Partick Thistle], cauld.'
