WEBSTER. After Thomas Webster (1773–1844), of Orkney, Professor of Geology, University College, London. Derivs. websteri, in Zool., specif. name of an Inoceramus or bivalve cretaceous mollusc (1822 G. A. Mantall in Fossils S. Downs 142, 216), and of an Astraea or star-coral (1840 J. S. Bowerbank in Mag. Nat. Hist. (Jan.) 27); websterite, in Geol., aluminite, hydrous aluminum sulphate, found by him at Newhaven in Sussex.
