BAIRD. Zool. After William Baird (1803–72), of Eccles in Bwk., physician and zoologist in London. Freq. in derivs. Bairdia, a genus of fossil ostracods (1844 McCoy in Griffith Syn. Carboniferous Fossils 165), also Bairdiacypris, Bairdianella, Bairdites, Bairdiolites, Bairdoppilata, Beratobairdia, other genera of ostracoda.
