KIPPER FAIR. A gala day at Newton-on-Ayr in August where the close of the salmon-fishing was celebrated with a treat of kippered (smoked) salmon and ale (Ayr. 1864 J. Paterson Reminisc. 72, 1904 D. Caldwell Kipper Fair 11).
