MOIR. A common ne.Sc. surname, locally pronounced [mo:r] (Per. 1933 J. Meikle Hist. Alyth Par. Ch. 170; ne.Sc. 1975). The -oi- is from the usu. O.Sc. representation of and has influenced the mod. diphthongal pronunciation [mɔir]
