DEEL, n. I. Sc. variant of Eng. dale, a valley (Sh., Ork. 1975). Comb. deel-föik, the fairies, as living in deep dens, and ravines. The dialect of the quot. is that of Fair Isle.Sh. 1915 Old-Lore Misc. VIII. i. 61:
A' body had haed some kind o' passin wi' da peerie umags a' deel-föik.
