BAR-NET, n.comb. A fixed net concealed under water and stretched across a river to bar and trap salmon.s.Sc. 1830 Acts Parl. 11 Geo. IV. c. liv. § 10:
If any Person or Persons shall beat the Water, or place or set any . . . bar-net in, over, or across the said River Tweed.
