ANYESTER, n. Also annester, -ister (Jak.). A two year old sheep, sometimes applied to other animals (Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl., 1908 Jak. (1928)). [′ɑnjəstər] [Orig. doubtful. Jak's conjectures Norw. annan, other, second, + set- from Setnin, but there are no Norw. parallels and there are grammatical and phonological difficulties. The word might conceivably be a jocular or taboo usage from Norw. agnestei, Lat. agnus Dei, a medallion with an image of the Lamb of God and a cross.]
