AMAWIN, adv. With a sweeping slashing movement like that of a scythe, athwart.Fif. 1818 Blackwood's Mag. (Feb.) 526:
Giving her father a sort of regular word of command . . . when he could not see to lay on the blows in their fights . . . ‘strike down— strike laigh—strike amawin’.
