AIRDRIEONIAN, prop.n. A native or inhabitant of Airdrie in Lnk.; a member of Airdrie Football Club. The form is on the analogy of Aberdonian, Dundonian, etc.Lnk. 1954 Bk. of Airdrie 328:
The name of the late Hon. Sheriff Thomas Forsyth will be for ever linked with that of Airdrieonians Football Club. It was he who was responsible for giving the name ‘Airdrieonians’ to it.
