SLEBS, v. Also slaepse. To salivate, slaver, dribble (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928), Sh. 1970); to eat or drink messily or frequently. [slɛps]Sh. 1886 J. Burgess Sketches 88:
Folk didna slaepse sae muckle wi' tay an' loff bread.

[Freq. form with prothetic s- from Norw. dial. lepja, to lap, slobber in food, or phs. simply from Laip, q.v. There has phs. been some influence from Norw. slafsa, to lick, lap.]
