SKIEN, prop.n. Also Skeen. The name of a town in Norway south of Oslo from which timber was exported to Scotland in the 18th c. Used attrib. of timber imported thence. Hist.Ags. 1702 R. Finlayson Arbroath Documents (1923) 18:
5 Skeen Dealls being broad for the windows at 12s. the peice. . . . 9 Skien Dealls at 12s. and 5 Drunton dealls at 8s. to be seatts to the scooll.
