SCREEBIE, n. Also screeby, screevie, and comb. screebie girss, scurvy grass, Cochlearia officinalis (Bnff. 1866 Gregor D. Bnff. 150; Kcd. 1960, screevie). See also Scrubie, scurvy. [′skribi, ′skrivi]Bnff. 1850 Zoologist VIII. 2907:
It is well known to the country people for its antiscorbutic properties: by them it is termed screebie girss.

[Corrupt ne.Sc. form of Eng. scurvy, the disease, orig. an extended use of scurvy, adj. ( < scurf), influenced by Fr. scorbut, the disease. The forms skirbye, skyrby, are found in the 16th. c. for scurvy, n. and adj.]
