RUR, n. Also rhur; rør. A type of shellfish, a barnacle, one of the Lepadidae (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928)). Also coll. Comb. rurpikker, rør-, a wading-bird fond of these shell-fish, esp. the purple sandpiper, Erolia maritima (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928)). [ru:r]Sh. 1959 New Shetlander No. 51. 27:
It is now encrusted with limpets and “rhur” and is rather difficult to spot.
