REPLEDGE, v. Sc. Law: to withdraw an accused person from the jurisdiction of one court to that of another under the pledge that justice would continue to be done, specif. applied to the privilege of the Lord of Regality (q.v.) to do this. Vbl.n. repledging. Hist. since 1747. Derivs. repledger, one who repledges a criminal, repledgiation, the act of so doing.Sc. 1700 S.C. Misc. (1846) III. 175:
To compeir before the said shereff and repledge the persones of Patrick and Donald Brounes from this court to the regality of Grant. . . . The said Ludovic Grant his charter of erectione of his lands and estate in ane free regality, with power of replegiatione.
