REEDS, n.pl. A method of catching coalfish (see quot.).Bnff. 1866 Gregor D. Bnff. 141:
Reeds. The mode of catching the young of the Coal-fish. It is simply done by a hand-line from a boat anchored, commonly by a stone, near the shore.
