PIRLIEWINK, n. A kind of small beer, made from wash after it has been several times diluted.Abd.5 1932:
There was first gweed ale and syne gweed ale, And second ale and syne There was pirlie-wink an' plooman's drink An' gweed sma' ale ahin.

[Orig. doubtful. Phs. ad. Eng. purl, a kind of shandygaff, or beer mixed with herbs, ginger or the like. The form seems to have been assimilated to pirliewink s.v. Pirlie. Cf. also Inkie-Pinkie.]
