PALLIASSE, n. Also palliace; palize. A straw-filled mattress or under-mattress, a pallet. Of Sc. orig., entering Eng. in 18th c. [†′pel(j)əs]Ags. 1712 Land of Lindsays (Jervise 1882) 425:
A standing bed with rid hangings, a straw palliace.
Sc. 1734 J. Spotiswoode Hope's Practicks 540:
The best Feather or Down Bed; A Bolster and Palizes.
