OWER-YEAR, adj., adv. Also over-year. Of animals, esp. ewes: (kept) over from the preceding year. Also in n.Eng. dial.Bte. 1702 Rothesay T. C. Records (1935) II. 545:
Ordaines all the sheip to be put out of the body of the toun . . . and ordaines the officer to poynd the guilty person and uplift the fyne and be comptable to the toune except it be those who keipes them over year.
e.Lth. 1850 Edb. Ev. Courant (3 Oct.):
The hill dealers complain bitterly of this market, for a few years back, being stocked with over-year ewes.
