OUTSTEIK, n. Also outsteak, ootsteek. A stitch made on the outside. Hence attrib. with shune, having the stitching of the soles done from the outside and thus visible; in reduced form outsteik, a former style of shoe in which this was done (Rxb. 1954 Hawick News (18 June) 7; s.Sc. 1964).
