NORWEGIAN, adj. Also etym. form northvegian (Sc. 1737 J. Drummond Memoirs Locheill (1842) 14). Sc. usage in comb.: Norwegian teal, the scaup-duck, Nyroca marila, its chief habitat being Norway; the wigeon, Mareca penelope (see 1929 quot.).Bnff. 1845 Stat. Acc.2 XIII. 11:
Scaup duck . . . appears in considerable numbers on the Doveran, where it is known by the name of Norwegian teal.
Ayr. 1929 Paton & Pike Birds Ayr. 133:
The Wigeon — commonly known as the Wigeon-teal, which has in some parts of Ayrshire been corrupted into Norwegian Teall — is a common winter visitor.
