NILD, adj., n.2 Also niled (Marw.), näild (Jak.).

I. adj. Also in double ppl. forms nilded, -et, näildet. Mouldy, mildewed, musty (Ork. 1903 E.D.D.; Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928); Ork. 1964).

II. n. Mould, mildew, fungus (Ork. 1887 Jam., 1929 Marw.; Sh., Ork. 1964).

[Orig. somewhat uncertain but prob. short for ppl.adj. Blue-nild, of the colour of bleu de Nil, Eng. Nile-blue, a greenish-blue colour like that of mould, from the name of the river.]
