NASHICK, n. Also nashack. A crab when its shell is half-way hardened, after it has cast its old one (Abd. c.1890 Gregor MSS.).Abd. c.1900 Crombie MSS.:
A crab with a half-hardened shell is called a Nashack; one with a hard shell but not yet in the Puller state is named a Grindie.
