MOOLET, v. Also -at, -ich (Ayr. 1963), †mouligh (Jam.). To whimper, to whine, to murmur querulously (Ayr. 1825 Jam., Ayr. 1963). Hence vbl.n. mooletin, whimpering, whining (Ayr. 1825 Jam.; Cld. 1880 Ib.).Ayr. 1887 J. Service Dr. Duguid 231:
We heard what we thocht at first was the mooletin' an' greetin' o' a bairn i' the field.
