LITHIE, n. Also lithy. A block or stout peg of wood driven into the wall of a byre, to which a cow can be tethered (Ork. 1929 Marw., Ork.5 1961). [′lɪθe]Ork. 1911 Old-Lore Misc. IV. II. 78:
A piece of wood called a lithie or havie, was built into the wall at the head of each animal, and to this they were tied with a home-made band.
