LEEGINS, n.pl. Also legins (Jak.) as a place-name. Fishing-grounds in the deep sea used by haaf boats (Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl.). [′l(j)egɪnz]

[Of somewhat doubtful orig. Phs. a deriv. of O.N., Norw. dial., Faer. lega, a lying-place, a place where boats anchor. See Laega. The phonology of Edm.'s form is irregular.]
