KERRIGAN, n. Only in Arran: a name applied to a non-native resident in the island, prob. orig. a land-worker, esp. of Irish stock. The word has a slightly derogatory force (Arran 1959).Arran 1949:
The name Kerrigan is given to orphans who are farmed out to farmers.
