1. As in Eng., freq. of divine retribution, used attrib. or in comb. judgement-like, characteristic of or appearing to threaten divine displeasure or punishment, awful (Sc. 1825 Jam.). Gen.Sc., obsol.Sc. a.1693 M. Bruce Lectures (1708) I. i.:
Even the godly may fall doited in the day when the vengeance of God is ready to pluck up a whole land. . . . When it is so . . . it's both a great sin, and looks judgment-like.
Ayr. 1821 Galt Ayr. Legatees ix.:
It would have been a judgment-like thing, had a bairn of Doctor Pringle's . . . been sacrificed to Moloch.
Sc. 1822 Scott Pirate vi.:
