HUSH PADLE, n.comb. Also hush (Sc. 1808 Jam.) and husk (Abd. 1815 J. Arbuthnot Fishes 23). A name given to the female of the lump-fish, Cyclopterus lumpus (Kcd. 1957).

[O.Sc. a.1585, hush-padle, id. See Paddle. The first element may represent Du. haasje, dim. of (zee-)haas, sea-hare, another name for this fish.]
