HEYRT, HEYRD, adj. Furious, raging. Only in phr. to be (gang, gae) heyrt, “to storm, fume, be in a violent rage” (Sc. 1808 Jam., gang (gae) heyrd).Sc. 1803 Jam. Water Kelpie in Scott Minstrelsy III. 262:
Douce, cautious men aft fey are seen, Thai rin as thai war heyrt.

[Variant of Hyte. Used only by Jam., prob. under a misconception.]
