HATHOCK, n. Also hathoc. A haddock (Abd. 1903 G. Sim Fauna of “Dee” 236, Mry.1 1925). See D, 4.Sc. 1880 F. Day Fishes I. 284:
Haddock, formerly spelt hadock, which in Scotland is pronounced hathock or haddie, and which after spawning are termed gamrels or camrels.
Mry. 1914 Trans. Bnff. Field Club 25:
An odd fish at the end of a division is a groggan; it frequently went as the boat's pairt hathoc to the man who cleared up the boat.
