GUNNET-SKATE, n.comb. A name given to the long-nosed skate, Raja oxyrhynchus, see quot. Also variant form gunnack (Bnff. 1866 Gregor D. Bnff. 71).Sc. 1810 Scots Mag. (July) 485:
Sharp-nosed Rays . . . are found in deep water, frequently near a sunk rock, called the Gunnet, situated a little to the westward of Inchkeith. From this circumstance, they often receive the local appellation of Gunnet-skate.
