GOWKMALEERIE, n., v. Also gouk-. A giddy female (Sc. 1912 Scotsman (31 Jan.)); the name of a skipping game. For v., see quot.
Ayr. 1920 9 :
Two girls would ca the rope in the usual way and a third would be skipping. The two would gowkmaleerie, i.e. swing the rope high above the head of the one skipping, who was supposed to get out. If she didn't she was gowkmaleerie.
