2. The common hair-moss, Polytrichum commune.Sc. 1803 Trans. Highl. Soc. 10:
It is chiefly formed in very wet places by the successive decay of the different kinds of moss, especially of the bog-moss, and the common goldilocks intermixed with other plants which grow in wet peat-earth.
